The Ark : A “Pretty” Mule and the Gospel

by Robert E. Grice, Director

The purpose of The Ark is to share the love of Christ with others.  In fact, The Ark is all about Him.  He is the motivation behind what we do.  Of course, many, if not most of the people, we help are not Christians and some who help us unknowingly help others.  However, for most of us it is our passion to serve Him.  James Floyd, one of the board members, often attends Sunday School at Hale’s Chapel west of Troy and then travels to Montgomery to have lunch with his 92-year old father.  He has been doing this for about two years since his father became unable to attend church.  James noticed a chestnut-colored mule.  The mule had a uniquely colored mane and tail.  He commented to me that it was a pretty mule if there is such a thing.

About three Sundays ago, James was looking for the mule while visiting his father.  James drove by the farm and noticed a truck behind him that was traveling towards the mule.  James felt an impression to talk with the man driving the truck.  The man was pouring water over the fence to the mule by the time James turned around and went back to where the mule was standing.  James talked with the man about the mule and its beautiful colors.  Before leaving James asked the man if he had ever received Christ into his life.  The man replied, “No, but he needed to.”  James shared the gospel with the man and he asked Jesus Christ to come into his life.

Is this type of story only possible for a few people?  No.  God wants to use you to share His love with others.  A desire to share the love of God with others is normal for a Christian.  It is possible that someone reading this article may feel like the man driving the truck.  You may need to ask Christ into your life.  If so, we would like to help.  Please let us know.

On September 9th 2007, Grace Harvest Church (the church on location in The Ark) will celebrate it 37th anniversary.  I will also be celebrating 47 years of ministry and 45 years of marriage.  We would like to invite you to join with us on this special day.

We want to thank everyone who helps with the ministry at The Ark.  Some help financially.  Some help with donated items.  Some help by donating their time.  We thank all of you and ask for your continued support.

The thrift store is open from 10 am to 2 pm on Monday through Saturday.  Sunday services are at 10 am. The Wednesday night service is at 7 pm. The Ark is located at 475 W. Main Street in Dothan .  Our phone number is 794-7223.
